BusinessCode auf der Gamescom

From August 20th to 24th, the gamescom trade fair took place in Cologne. Every year, this video game expo attracts thousands of visitors who want to learn about the latest trends, games, and developments, and try their luck at playing themselves. This year, our colleague Michael Knümann was one of them.
As a software developer, you’re not too far removed from game development. In the best case, you even have a bit of a soft spot for it, in addition to your professional interest. For years, our colleague Michael Knümann has noticed the crowds of gamescom visitors as he commutes between Cologne and Bonn.
That was reason enough to check it out for himself. “Especially when your own kids want to go,” Michael smiles. “So we bought evening tickets and a dream came true—not just for my children—and off we went to Koelnmesse Deutz.” Once there, you’ll find halls exclusively for trade visitors alongside so-called event halls for gamers. Compared to the summer temperatures outside, it was pleasantly cool in the exhibition halls despite the crowds. By the way: At the entrance, every visitor received an age rating wristband after showing their ID. Some games and booths are only accessible from a certain minimum age, and this was strictly enforced.
The audience consisted mainly of young adults, with parents and children of various ages mixed in between. “The boundaries blur; the fascination spans generations, just like with us,” Michael explains. “Gaming all over”—that’s the best way to sum up the evening. Although one thing is definitely needed: patience, because the lines at every booth were incredibly long.
And what does this have to do with BusinessCode? Quite simply, it’s about crossing boundaries and thinking in completely different dimensions. So, we brought back one or two ideas straight to the office—BusinessCode, as an innovative IT company, is always open to inspiration!

There were many cosplayers among the audience. So we were able to admire some “game characters” in real life.
